Warning: Spoilers for Green Lantern #16The Green Lantern Corps is usually a unified force that maintains order in the DC Universe, but one of its strongest members just went from ally to enemy. A Green Lantern has been converted to a Red Lantern, and they've already wiped out a whole planet on their warpath. Now, it's up to Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart to take them down before even more planets succumb to their explosive wrath.

The preview for Green Lantern #16 by Jeremy Adams, Xermánico, Romulo Fajardo Jr., and Dave Sharpe pits Hal Jordan against a dire threat to the cosmos. The planet of Thanagar is destroyed, with the remaining survivors taking refuge on a Raanian spaceship after being saved by Green Lantern. The source of this destruction is Mogo, a former Green Lantern who's become a Red Lantern in a shocking turn that endangers the entire universe.

With a planetary powerhouse wielding the rage of a Red Lantern, Green Lantern faces a danger unlike any other that could lead to the obliteration of countless worlds. Mogo's power has been a crucial asset to the Green Lantern Corps in the past, but now, he could be their most daunting opponent of all time.

Mogo the Living Planet was created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons in 1985, in a short story entitled "Mogo Doesn't Socialize" from Green Lantern #188. As his appearance suggests, Mogo is a sentient planet, and he's taken on many roles for the Green Lantern Corps. He's served as a sanctuary for Lanterns, at times becoming a base of operations. His primary purpose has been guiding Green Lantern rings to new hosts and allowing the Corps to expand rather than dwindle. Over the years, Mogo has become invaluable to the Green Lanterns, so his Red Lantern conversion is a devastating loss for them.

A fan-favorite Green Lantern just shifted allegiances to the Sinestro Corps, in a surprising reveal that redefines his role in the DC Universe.

Although Mogo has historically been a Green Lantern, his allegiances have shifted after the events of Green Lantern Civil Corps Special #1. In this one-shot, Hal Jordan and John Stewart, joined by fledgling superhero Star Sapphire, travel to Thanagar in order to expose Lord Premier Thaaros as a fraud. Hal and John manage to defeat him, but in his final moments, Thaaros channels his rage into Mogo and turns the planet into an unstoppable Red Lantern. Mogo now lays waste to every planet in his way, and only his Green Lantern teammates can oppose him.

Mogo's switch from Green Lantern to Red Lantern kicks off a cosmic battle in the DC Universe that's been brewing for some time. After Thaaros' takeover of the United Planets and subsequent monopoly over the Emotional Spectrum, his latest gambit is nothing short of a declaration of war. The Green Lanterns may be backed into a corner with Mogo unleashed, but no matter how bleak the odds look, Hal Jordan's willpower remains as resolute as ever. With John Stewart by his side, Green Lantern is ready to take a stand in this civil war and stop Red Lantern Mogo at any cost.

Green Lantern #16 is available October 16th, 2024 from DC Comics.

Green Lantern is the name given to multiple enforcers of intergalactic justice in the DC Universe. Green Lanterns can harness the cosmic energy of willpower, and create unique spectral objects to face off against their enemies. Though some Green Lanterns have assisted with the Justice League, they primarily belong to the Green Lantern Corps.

Several individuals have taken up the name, powers, and duties of the Green Lantern since the character was created for DC comics in the 1940s. But no matter who takes on the name, members of the Green Lanterns, an intergalactic force for protection and justice, seek to eliminate evil and keep Earth (and other planets) safe.
