Warning: Spoilers for Green Lantern #17Green Lantern's darkest foe has just unlocked a major power-up that rewrites DC lore and makes him a more formidable threat than ever before. After taking the Dark Star Ring for himself, Lord Premier Thaaros is officially the DC Universe's strongest Lantern, and Green Lantern will need all the help he can get if he wants to end his reign of terror once and for all.

In the preview for Green Lantern #17 by Jeremy Adams, Xermánico, Romulo Fajardo Jr., and Dave Sharpe, Green Lantern heroes across the galaxy are left reeling in the wake of the devastating attack by Red Lantern Mogo. Other forces, including the villainous Varron, seek out the power that Lord Premier Thaaros had been pursuing prior to his untimely death, but it's revealed that Thaaros has found a surprising way to cheat death as the Dark Star Ring grants him a new form.

Through this transformation, the all-powerful Dark Star Ring gives Thaaros full control over the Emotional Spectrum, and the DC Universe will never be the same as he elevates his cosmic conflict against Green Lantern to a horrifying new level.

In Green Lantern Civil Corps #1 by Adams, Phillip Kennedy Johnson, and Salvador Larroca, Kilowog betrays John Stewart and steals his Dark Star Ring on behalf of Lord Premier Thaaros, so John teams up with Hal Jordan to expose Thaaros' evil ways to the Thanagarian government in hopes of reclaiming the ring. Though they fail, Thaaros ends up getting killed by a fatal blow from the Star Shroud - until, in Green Lantern #16, the Dark Star Ring revives him. Not only is Thaaros alive again thanks to his ring, but he also wields the power of every Lantern Corps.

Things go from bad to worse for the Green Lanterns as they reunite with a surprising ally only to discover they’ve become a fearsome Red Lantern.

Lord Premier Thaaros' plan to seize the power of the Source Lantern has succeeded at last, as he absorbs the power of DC's most powerful ring into his being. The Dark Star Ring contains an aspect of the Old God Olgrun, which imbues it with the ability to harness all facets of the Emotional Spectrum. This makes it a danger to the cosmos, so John Stewart had intended to keep it so it wouldn't fall into the wrong hands. That worst case scenario has now come to pass, and Olgrun's power combined with Thaaros' villainy culminates in a dark new threat to the Green Lantern Corps.

With the unlimited power of the Dark Star Ring fueling him, Thaaros declares war on Oa, the headquarters of the Green Lantern Corps. The Green Lanterns are already in bad shape since Thaaros channeled his rage into Mogo to turn him into his Red Lantern minion, and now Oa hangs in the balance. Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and the rest of the Lanterns must band together in order to save the Corps from imminent destruction by Thaaros' hand. Green Lantern - and the entire DC Universe - faces a peril unlike any other as the battle for Oa approaches.

Green Lantern #17 will be available November 13th, 2024 from DC Comics.

Green Lantern is the name given to multiple enforcers of intergalactic justice in the DC Universe. Green Lanterns can harness the cosmic energy of willpower, and create unique spectral objects to face off against their enemies. Though some Green Lanterns have assisted with the Justice League, they primarily belong to the Green Lantern Corps.
