Winter Lantern Festival returns to DMV for the holidays, bringing 1,000 Chinese lanterns

Nov 03, 2024Nov 03, 2024

The annual Winter Lantern Festival has returned to the DMV, displaying over 1,000 Chinese lanterns in Tysons, Virginia this holiday season.

The lanterns were handmade by skilled artisans with decades of experience using LED lights covered by wireframes draped in Chinese silk, inspired by Chinese myths, legends and zodiacs. One of the main themes for this year's festival is the new Smithsonian National Zoo pandas, Bao Li and Qing Bao.

Guests of all ages are welcome to take the 45-minute walk through the display and experience the lanterns for themselves.

The display is open Thursdays through Sundays between Oct. 31, 2024, and Jan. 12, 2025.

"It’s been a pleasure to work with our artists again and again to celebrate culture, family and the holidays and we look forward to an even bigger and better 2024,” said Chief Executive Officer, Xiao Tian Falig.

New this year to the festival are the Zigong Acrobatic Troupe's acrobatic performances. Additional attractions include a "bounce house, sugar paintings, dino ride, interactive light swings, see-saws, tunnels, and many majestic creatures," according to a statement.
