Thousands were getting into the holiday spirit at the 17th annual Lighting of Shipshewana and Christmas Light Parade.

Organizers say this year was one of the biggest light parades ever done, with an estimated 40,000 attendees showing up to celebrate.

The parade began around 7 p.m. and was followed by the lighting ceremony of the 53 foot tall tree and thousands of Christmas lights in downtown Shipshewana.

We spoke with Vice President of Marketing for Blue Gate,Andrew Rohrer.

"We love inviting people to Shipshewana, you know we are a town of about 700 people; on a day to day basis. And we really love visitors to come and experience our little slice of heaven; and that's really what this event here is all about, its inviting people to come and just experience a good ol' fashioned country Christmas," saysRohrer.

This year the light show was nominated by USA Today for being one of the top 10 holiday parades in the country.
