Jul 06, 2023Green Canary Cosplay Honors the Zombie Apocalypse's Green Lantern
Cosplayer Brooke Le gives DCeased's Black Canary's Green Lantern upgrade the respect it deserves in a cosplay that brings the hero to life.
The Green Lantern that shone a light in the darkness of DC Comics' zombie apocalypse is being honored with an amazing new cosplay. Green might not be Dinah Lance's usual color, but Brooke Le's outfit makes it work in a session that doubles as a tribute to an underrated hero.
Black Canary is known as an ass-kicking, street-level hero that possesses a devastating metahuman power known as the Canary Cry, a powerful sonic scream. But Dinah took on a new identity when the world fell to the Anti-Life Equation, turning the DC Universe into a world filled with powerful zombies. Dinah was forced to kill her good friend and Justice League teammate Green Lantern Hal Jordan after he was corrupted by the virus. However, the world needed a Green Lantern more than ever. And with Black Canary being the closest person that qualified, she was immediately inducted into the Green Lantern Corps, giving the living heroes of Earth a fighting chance.
Dinah Lance's actions as Green Lantern might have only been contained to Earth-55 in the DC Multiverse, but that doesn't mean they're not worth honoring. On Instagram, Brooke Le posted a cosplay of herself as Black Canary from the DCeased canon. The tableau shows the Green Lantern in space, kneeling on an asteroid as she poses with a sword, all modeled after DCeased: Dead Planet #4's variant cover by Inhyuk Lee (itself modeled after the poster for the 2018 Aquaman film). A followup Instagram post shows Green Canary floating in the cosmos, holding the sword (als paying homage to a variant cover, this one referencing Sun Khamunaki's cover for DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #1). Both photos were shot by @cooper_burns.az and were edited by @yamasakiph_art.
Le really pulls off Black Canary's Green Lantern upgrade. In addition to the hundreds of likes the posts received, numerous users commented how phenomenal the cosplayer's look is. When it comes to Green Lanterns, Dinah doesn't often get a lot of attention, likely because her costume comes from a book that isn't canon with the main DC Universe. But that doesn't mean she isn't worthy of paying tribute through cosplay. Le's outfit isn't just part of an amazing cosplay session, it pays respect to a severely underrated Green Lantern.
Black Canary was instrumental in fighting back against the undead forces of DCeased as the infection spread. But because her achievements are limited to another Earth, Dinah's actions as a Lantern are passed over by some fans and unknown altogether by others. Le's cosplay is impressive on its own, as she absolutely brings this version of Black Canary to life. But such a faithful recreation is more than just a great cosplay. It's a tribute to a Green Lantern that deserves more attention and respect than she usually gets. There's little doubt that if DCeased's Green Lantern Dinah could see Le's cosplay, she'd be honored by how awesome it is.
