Dirt is being moved on a two-year project to widen a stretch of Plank Road in Peru.
Advanced Asphalt is behind the nearly $3 million job. Work this fall and early winter is focused on the east side of Plank Road with storm sewer work and moving dirt for wider lanes of traffic. This year's Plank Road work won't impact traffic.
Next year, crews will finish storm sewer work and remove existing pavement in stages, which will impact Plank Road traffic. Crews will begin next year to reconstruct Plank Road in phases.
When finished, Plank Road will look much like North Peoria Street with new lights, a center dual turn lane, widened lanes and shared use path.
